Novo-Maka villagers doubt reality of the story about labour slavery in greenhouses

There are indeed many greenhouses in the village of Novo-Maka in the Suleiman-Stalsky District, but no one is taken into slavery, Takhmez Nazaraliev, a villager, has stated. Meilan Abasmirzoev, a deputy head of the administration of the Novo-Maka rural settlement, has not believed in the story of two Moscow residents; he thinks that the presence of greenhouses in the village does not mean that people are kept in slavery there.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 11, it became known that Moscow residents, Pyotr Pelekhanov and Olga Lifanova, got into slavery in Dagestan, where they spent almost a month working in greenhouses.

On October 12, Takhmez Nazaraliev, a native of the village of Novo-Maka, Dagestan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that greenhouses are one of the main villagers' incomes.

Mr Nazaraliev has no idea how tourists from Moscow could be in slavery in Novo-Maka: "There are no people there who are capable of such a thing. I am sure that the greenhouse owners had nothing to do with it; they were also deceived, like these tourists."

Meilan Abasmirzoev, a deputy head of the administration of the Novo-Maka rural settlement, has confirmed that there are greenhouses in the village. "Yes, there are some. So, what? There are greenhouses in almost all Dagestani villages, but this does not mean that people are being kept in slavery there," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, noting that he disbelieved the story of Moscow tourists.
