PFPA activist arrested for 25 days
A court arrested Ramiz Djafarov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, for 25 days on the charge of failure to obey legal requests of the police. Party colleagues of the activist consider the charge against him politically motivated.
Ramiz Djafarov, a member of the Binagadi branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was summoned to a police station, and on November 3, he went there and stopped answering calls from his colleagues, says Natig Adilov, the chief of the PFPA’s press service.
“The police drew up a protocol against Ramiz Djafarov on failure to obey legal requests of the police, and the court arrested him for 25 days,” Natig Adilov informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
The chief of the PFPA’s press service noted that the party considers the accusation far-fetched. “How could a person who came to the police himself fail to obey a legal request of the police? Ramiz is being prosecuted for his political activities. Recently, he took part in actions in defence of political prisoners. Earlier, Elkhan Aliev, another participant of the same actions, had been arrested,” Natig Adilov said.
According to him, about ten PFPA activists were arrested over the past month. “Elkhan Aliev and Fuad Akhmedli are still under arrest. And now Ramiz Djafarov has been arrested. The authorities suppress any political activity,” the chief of the PFPA’s press service claimed.
