Makhachkala: over hundred people come to opening of monument to victims of political repressions
On November 13, a ceremony of opening a monument to victims of political repressions was held in the Reduktorny dwelling settlement of Makhachkala. The monument looks like a heart split in two parts, installed on a pedestal. The halves of the heart are in different colours – black and white. According to the authors' idea, it symbolizes the light and dark sides of the life.
More than a hundred people came to the opening of the monument, members of various public organizations and the descendants of victims of political repressions. The monument was opened by Emilia Radjabova, the Acting Deputy Mayor of Makhachkala, and Maris Ilyasov, the Chairman of the City Assembly.
The opening of the monument means a lot for the families of the repressed people, Akhmed Muzhaidov, the head of the initiative group for perpetuating the memory of the repressed persons, has stated. "For many years they could not walk with their heads held high, for they were treated as children of people's enemies. And now I am glad that we've managed to complete this work, to build such a monument," he has noted.
