Kadyrov demonstrates rejection of protests in Ingushetia

By threatening to seize territories from Ingushetia, Ramzan Kadyrov is seeking pressure from the authorities of the neighbouring republic on those residents who are dissatisfied with the situation with the border, political analyst Dmitry Oreshkin, economist Sergey Zhavoronkov, and Caucasian expert Akhmet Yarlykapov suggest.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 11, the “Chechenavtodor” carried out excavation works on the bank of the Fortanga River, along which the border with Ingushetia passes. Workers of the “Chechenavtodor” took the river waters aside, which provoked indignation in Ingushetia. Instagram users from Chechnya criticized residents of Ingushetia for artificially escalating the conflict.

Ramzan Kadyrov indirectly calls on the authorities of Ingushetia to put pressure on those dissatisfied with the situation with the border, political analyst Dmitry Oreshkin believes.

“Ramzan Kadyrov imagines himself the head of Northern Caucasus and decides how the neighbouring republics should behave,” Dmitry Oreshkin noted.

Ramzan Kadyrov aims to stop protest actions by putting pressure on the authorities of Ingushetia, Sergey Zhavoronkov suggests.

“He tries to use his own words to put pressure on the authorities of Ingushetia so that they, in turn, put pressure on the Ingush protesters,” the expert explained.

Ramzan Kadyrov’s threats to “take back those lands” indicate that the issue of the new border between the republics is still relevant for the authorities of Chechnya, Dmitry Oreshkin emphasizes.

The border issue is relevant for Ramzan Kadyrov, because it is a reason to demonstrate his strength, Akhmet Yarlykapov suggests. Meanwhile, the Kremlin will not necessarily intervene, even if the federal authorities are dissatisfied with the situation, Sergey Zhavoronkov notes.
