Detentions
On December 27, 2021, Kairbek Bakiev and Ilkhan Kanmurzaev, natives of the Stavropol Territory, were detained on suspicion of participation in an attack by the Basaev and Khattab’s grouping on Dagestan in 1999. The suspects are charged with banditry, participation in an armed riot, and attempt on the lives of militaries and law enforcers. At a request of investigators, a court ruled to take Kairbek Bakiev into custody as a pre-trial restriction measure, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported.
On the same day, it was reported about the detention of a 56-year-old resident of Beslan on suspicion of selling two flare pistols and a deactivated submachine gun, converted for firing live ammunition. Field investigators discovered in the suspect’s house a workshop with machines and devices for the manufacture and conversion of firearms from civilian to combat, the police reported.
