Petition against military operation in Ukraine gains over 1.1 million signatures

The petition demanding an end to Russia's military operation in Ukraine, posted on February 24 by the human rights defender, Lev Ponomaryov* on the Change.org platform, has gained about 100,000 signatures within the past 35 hours, bringing the total number of signatories in excess of 1.1 million.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 24, Lev Ponomaryov* posted a petition "Stop the war with Ukraine!" on the Change.org platform. As of 8:40 p.m. Moscow time on February 28, the document had gained 1,030,493 signatures.

Over the past 35 hours – from 8:40 p.m. Moscow time on February 28, to 7:40 a.m. Moscow time on March 2, the Ponomaryov's* petition against the Russia's military operation in Ukraine was signed by 98,142 persons; now, the document has 1,128,635 signatures.

The signatories have also supported the author of the petition in their comments. "Stop! No one needs war. People, it's the 21st century! We should become better, haven't the old mistakes taught us anything?" the user Tatevik Melkonyan has asked.

"I don't want war. I believe that any conflict can be resolved peacefully. I feel sorry for those who are dying right now," the user Anastasia Alifirova has written.

"No to war! Peaceful people should not suffer because of politics," Maksim Golub has stated.

*Lev Ponomaryov was personally entered by the Ministry of Justice of Russia into the register of foreign agents.
