Volgograd activist detained at picket
Tamara Grodnikova, who went out to a solo picket in central Volgograd on March 16, was detained by the police. She went to the protest action with posters against the blocking of independent media and social media resources, as well as in support of Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor of the Russian Channel One.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, protests are being held in Volgograd.
Ms Grodnikova entered the Alley of Heroes at 2:00 p.m. Moscow time. She noted that she was concerned about the fate of Marina Ovsyannikova, who had appeared on air of the "Vremya" (Time) programme of Channel One in the evening on March 14 with a poster against the military operation of Russian troops in Ukraine and an appeal not to believe the propaganda.
"I'm very worried about Marina Ovsyannikova, although I don't know her personally. I read that she has two children and that she has already been fired from her job for the state television. It should be assumed that an honest journalist who correctly understands her profession's responsibility will join the ranks of the unemployed. After all, we have practically no independent media that welcome the independent position of their authors," Tamara Grodnikova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Around 3:00 p.m. Moscow time, the picketer was detained and taken to the police station.
