Nalchik court places Ingush sign interpreter Dugiev under house arrest

The Nalchik City Court has placed Ramazan Dugiev, an Ingush sign interpreter, under house arrest for two months; he was accused of causing grievous bodily harm to law enforcers during protests in Magas in 2019.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ramazan Dugiev was detained under the so-called "rally case", when he was on his way to the investigator in Nalchik to give explanations; and a search was conducted in his house. Ramazan has deaf and dumb parents; he is the only breadwinner in the family and one of the few sign interpreters in the republic, his cousin has explained. On February 16, 2022, a court in Nalchik arrested Ramazan Dugiev until March 24, accusing him of causing grievous bodily harm to law enforcers during the protests in Magas in 2019.

However, the Nalchik City Court has softened the Dugiev's freedom restrain measure by placing him under house arrest for two months, the "Fortanga" has reported today.

When making the decision, the Court sided with the defence. The reasons for using the article against the activist remain in question, while Dugiev himself refuses to plead guilty, his advocate, Visit Tsoroev, has explained.
