Azerbaijan puts Russian MP Delyagin on wanted list
Russian State Duma member Mikhail Delyagin has been charged in absentia under several criminal articles for calling for war against Azerbaijan because of the escalation in Karabakh, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan reports.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 26, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) accused Azerbaijan of violating the tripartite agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Russian MoD, on March 24 and 25, the Azerbaijani armed forces entered the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers and fired at the Karabakh army units from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan has instituted a criminal case against Mikhail Delyagin, the deputy chair of the Russian State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, for demonstrating “a position that contradicts the principles of interaction between the two states,” the press service for the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan reports today.
“On March 28, 2022, during a programme broadcast on the ‘Russia-1’ TV Channel, Mikhail Delyagin openly called for an aggressive war against the Republic of Azerbaijan and made a provocative statement about the use of tactical nuclear weapons to destroy the energy infrastructure and oil industry of our country,” states the press release of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan.
On March 29, the criminal case was instituted under Articles 101.2 (open calls through the media to wage a war of aggression expressed by an official), 214.2.3 (threat to commit a terror act using firearms and objects used as weapons), 283.2.1 and 283.2.2 (inciting national hatred through the threat of using force and using one’s official position) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
“Mikhail Delyagin has been involved as a defendant under the above-mentioned Articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and put on the international wanted list through Interpol,” the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan reported.
