In blocked villages of Tsakhur Valley, foodstuffs run out at stores

Two helicopters have brought humanitarian aid to the Tsakhur Valley, which has been blocked for the tenth day as a result of the collapse of the only road connecting it with the outside world. People in mountain villages usually have some stock of foodstuffs, but the stores are empty, local residents have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 21, the collapse of the Rutul-Luchek-Djinykh motor road left 13 villages of the valley with a population of about 5000 without transport link.

The stores of the village of Tsakhur, which was blocked as a result of the road collapse, are running out of food, Vagif Aliev, the head of the village, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Today is the tenth day since we have been cut off from the outside world. The stores are empty. I called the owners of two large shopping centres; they said that only sweets are left on shelves, and nothing else. All the foodstuffs have been sold out," he said.

According to his story, in the coming days, road services should break through a small lane, so that vehicles can pass.

On April 29, two helicopters arrived in the Tsakhur Valley, bringing humanitarian aid from Senator Suleiman Kerimov and the "Insan" Charity Fund. "They gave out some food, but this, of course, can't fully cover all the need for food for those who are running out of it," Mr Aliev has concluded.
