Opposition resumes protests in Yerevan

Supporters of the Armenian opposition have resumed their protests demanding the resignation of the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Armenia, the opposition has been holding protests since April 25, demanding the resignation of the government. On May 16, the police announced the detention of 91 activists in Yerevan.

Activists of the "Resistance" movement have resumed protest actions in Yerevan. The police call on the demonstrators to clear the roadway, and also obstruct the journalists' work by pushing them away from the protest venue. Clashes are breaking out.

"Law enforcers are performing Pashinyan's unjustified orders; they prevent actions and use brutal force against protesters," said Anna Mkrtchyan, an MP from the "I Have Honour" oppositional parliamentary faction.

She has added that Armen Ashotyan and Naira Zograbyan, former MPs from the Republican Party of Armenia and the "Prosperous Armenia" Party, respectively, are among the detainees.

Ishkhan Sagatelyan, a Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, has promised that streets in Yerevan will be blocked today, and the traffic will be paralyzed.
