Strasbourg Court accepts Tsakoevs' complaint from Kabardino-Balkaria

It has become known today that the European Court in Strasbourg sent a notification that the complaint of applicants Tsakoevs from Kabardino-Balkaria was accepted to consideration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that the complaint was filed on the fact of death of Rasul Tsakoev, resident of Kabardino-Balkaria. It was lodged by Rasul's parents with assistance of the "Memorial" International Human Rights Society.

The complaint presents the following circumstances:

Rasul Tsakoev disappeared on September 27, 2004, and on September 29 he was thrown away to the garbage dump some two kilometres off Khasanya village. Rasul could get to a fuelling station and managed to tell that he had been kidnapped by UBOP (Organized Crime Fighting Unit) soldiers and interrogated with application of physical violence. He was severely beaten; all his body was in bruises and grazes, with traces of handcuffs, wire and cigarette burns.

On October 4, 2004, Rasul Tsakoev died from acute renal insufficiency, extensive myoglobullinaemia, total right-side pneumonia and heavy associated traumas. Throughout several years, the applicants tried to make use of the means of legal defence stipulated by the national legislation. However all their efforts failed.
