Deputy Director of the National Museum of Adygea: Sochi needs archaeological examination

Ruslan Achmiz, Deputy Director of the National Museum of Adygea, asserted in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that, apart from the ecological examination, the Sochi Olympic construction sites also need a mandatory archaeological examination.

He explained that the North Caucasus and the sites in question, in particular, have always been densely populated. Therefore, a question arises, R. Achmiz said, whether this sort of examination has ever been conducted. And in case it has been conducted, why the local public knows nothing about it.

We remind you that ecologists of North Caucasus are categorically against the choice of Sochi as the venue of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. In Adygea the ecologists were supported by such public organizations like the "Union of Slavs of Adygea," the Republic's CPRF (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) branch, and other public groups. In this connection in the city of Maikop they held a picket dated to the Day of Ecologist.

The "Circassian Congress" of Adygea has also spoken against the choice of this place. However, the reason of the opinion of this public movement is different. Its leaders assert that the Games should not be held in the place where genocide had been accomplished in the recent past.
