Dagestan native sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for driving his comrade-in-arms to suicide
In February 2006, at anonymous polling on the problem of hazing in the army, held by deputy commander for upbringing of the military unit No. 22292 of the 85th Motor Rifle Division deployed in Novosibirsk, a number of servicemen pointed to private Ruslan Velkhiev as an infringer of statutory relations. After it has become known, junior sergeant Ukolov was beaten, and several days later, on February 14, junior sergeant Zemlyanukhin was found hung up at the tent camp in Shilovo village.
Ruslan Velkhiev was arrested on decision of the Novosibirsk Military Court, and the Garrison Prosecutor's Office presented charges to him under Article 161 ("Robbery"), Article 63 ("Extortion") and Article 335 ("Non-Statute Relations Entailing Grave Consequences") of the Criminal Code (CC) of the Russian Federation. Zemlyanukhin's relatives filed a claim of 0.5 million roubles, while the defendant rejected his guilt.
The Novosibirsk Military Court has found Ruslan Velkhiev guilty and sentenced him to 4.5 years in custody, the Court's spokesman told the RIA "Novosti." He will serve his term in a general custody colony. "In view of the relation degree" (the victim's aunt was the claimant), the Garrison Court has ruled to collect 30,000 roubles from the convict.
