During the week of May 16-22, 2022, at least two persons were killed in the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
On May 18, at night, a counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the Leninsky District of Makhachkala. At about 2:20 a.m. Moscow time, during “operational-and-search activities,” employees of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) noticed two men who were mounting an improvised explosive device near an electrical substation on Turisticheskaya Street, the press service for the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported the details of the incident.
“When law enforcers attempted to verify the IDs of the men and stop their criminal activity, suspects ignored the legal demands […] and opened point shooting at law enforcers,” the ICRF’s Investigating Department for Dagestan reports on its official website. The suspects were killed as a result of return shooting, the investigators report. “There are no casualties among law enforcers and civilians. An improvised explosive device (IED) was defused on the spot,” the press service for the ICRF’s Investigating Department for Dagestan reports.
The CTO in Makhachkala became the first in Dagestan within eight months after the special operation in the Buynaksk District on September 10, 2021. In Makhachkala, the recent CTO was carried out on March 11, 2021.
Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
