Kadyrov reacts to Ukrainian MPs' initiative to recognize independence of Ichkeria

The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, the initiative to recognize the independence of which was put forward by the MPs of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, does not exist; it was abolished many years ago by the Ichkerians themselves, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has proclaimed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 11, Oleksiy Goncharenko and Musa Magomedov, the MPs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, submitted a draft resolution recognizing the independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.

The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was an unrecognized separatist state formation (in 1991-2000), created after the collapse of the Soviet Union on a part of the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and liquidated by the Russian Army during the Second Chechen War. Ichkeria was not recognized by any of the United Nations (UN) member states.

In his Telegram channel, the head of Chechnya has called the draft resolution as "absolutely ridiculous and absurd" and recalled that "Ichkeria does not even exist on paper." "It was liquidated by the former Ichkerians themselves, who announced in 2007 the abolition of Ichkeria and the creation of the so-called 'Imarat Kavkaz'*," Ramzan Kadyrov has written.

He believes that the MPs were thirty years late with their initiative.
