Problem of religious extremism discussed in Kabardino-Balkaria
Today, a roundtable was held in Nalchik to discuss the problems of religious extremism in Kabardino-Balkaria. The event was attended by representatives of law enforcement bodies, education professionals and the public.
Feliks Efendiev, acting head of the Public Security Militia, has reported, when speaking to the roundtable, that currently over 500 persons are registered as adherents of radical Islam in Kabardino-Balkaria. After events of October, 13, 2005, the number of adherents of radical Islam has even gone up, not down.
When speaking about the undertaken measures, Feliks Efendiev has mentioned the activities of school militia inspectors, who are responsible for safeguarding teenagers from the influence of religious extremism. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that representatives of Muslim clergy, local administrations, etc. are also involved in the process.
