Two witnesses in case of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev refute their testimonies

Aida Khaita and Sultan Omarov, the prosecution witnesses in the case of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, have stated at trial that their testimonies given during the investigation had nothing to do with reality.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) outlet, treat the criminal case against him as fabricated with the aim to put pressure on him, and are regularly holding pickets in his support. According to the prosecution, by means of his articles, Gadjiev "spread the idea of separation of the republics of Northern Caucasus from Russia and establish the Sharia Law in them."

Shamil Kadyrov, a witness, was interrogated at the court session on August 25. He said that he had not known any of the defendants.

On June 26, 2019, the court found Shamil Kadyrov, a resident of Dagestan, guilty of complicity in financing terrorism and sentenced him to eight years in prison. According to the prosecution, he transferred more than 800,000 roubles to members of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court.

  • Rights defenders treat proofs in Georgian oppositionists’ case as artificial

The supporters of Georgia’s European integration, accused of involvement in violence at protest actions held in Tbilisi, are not charged with the actions described by the suffered law enforcers. The aim of the trial is to intimidate the civil society so that people are afraid to take part in protests, human rights defenders believe.
