Two pickets in support of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev held in Makhachkala
On February 6, activist Salim Khalitov and journalist Idris Yusupov held solo pickets with the demand to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft). The police did not interfere with the protest actions.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider the criminal case against him to be political persecution and hold pickets in Makhachkala in support of him every week. Magdi Kamalov, a founder of the newspaper “Chernovik”, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the publication, and journalist Idris Yusupov regularly participate in the pickets. On January 2, 9, and 16, the police disrupted the pickets by detaining the journalists.
Activist Salim Khalitov held a solo picket with the demand to stop the persecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. Journalist Idris Yusupov also spoke out in support of political prisoners, the “Kavkaz.Realii”* reports.
The police were on duty at the place of the picket and asked about the picketers’ demands. However, the police did not interfere with the protest actions.
On January 19, experts confirmed that articles posted by Abdulmumin Gadjiev did not promote the superiority of Sharia. Prosecutors found it necessary to appoint a new examination of the journalist’s articles to check them for the presence of any appeals, advocate Arsen Shabanov reported.
