Muscovites come to support Memorial* at trial

Residents of the Russian capital came to the Moscow City Court (MCC) to support the "International Memorial"* in a dispute over the legality of transferring its office to the Research and Education Centre. Employees of the Embassies of Great Britain and Norway also arrived at the courthouse.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 7, 2022, it became known that the Tverskoy Court of Moscow had invalidated the deal to transfer the building of the liquidated "International Memorial"* to the Research and Educational Centre. Thus, the court ignored the advocates' arguments about the legality of the transfer.

In September 2022, at the request of the prosecutor's office, the court arrested the office of the liquidated "International Memorial"*, legally donated to another organization, human rights defenders reported, treating it as an attempt to raider seize the property.

Today, supporters came to court in favour of the "Memorial"*. In particular, Natalia, a teacher, has explained that she came because, in her opinion, the "Memorial"* is being treated unfairly. "I'm sure we need to show support, even if it doesn't make a difference," she said.

Let us remind you that on February 28, 2022, the Board of Appeal of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia upheld the decision to liquidate the "International Memorial"*.

On April 5, 2022, the court also upheld the decision to liquidate the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"*.
