Dagestani's defence achieves opening new case on his torture in Kalmyk colony
More than half a year after Magomed Atimagomedov, a prisoner from Dagestan, testified, his defence managed to initiate another criminal case on his torture against Baatar Bakanov and Arman Sagipov, employees of the colony in Kalmykia known as IK-2.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September 2022, a case was opened in Kalmykia on incitement to mass riots against the colony inmates from Dagestan, Magomed Atimagomedov and Daud Kuramagomedov, accused of attacking the colony staff. According to their advocates, their clients had been severely beaten up. The natives of Dagestan stated that they were tortured by about 40 persons; however, most of them were not placed into custody.
Magomed Atimagomedov, accused of killing a colony warder, said that he had planned to escape, as officers from the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) threatened him with charges under a terrorist article; however, he had nothing to do with the murder, but he had to sign his testimony under pressure. Atimagomedov is being threatened and fears for his life, Aza Alieva, his advocate, said in August 2022.
Now, the case has been initiated against Baatar Bakanov and Arman Sagipov, employees of the IK-2, under the article on violent acts of a sexual nature. It took the defence more than half a year to initiate the case, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project has reported.
Let us remind you that Bakanov and Sagipov are already figurants in a criminal case on abuse of power with the use of torture. Together with them, two other colony warders figure in the case; however, they deny their participation in acts of torture.
