Kadyrov refuses to meet Chechen fighters who return from Ukrainian captivity

Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, announced that five Chechen fighters earlier captured by the Ukrainian armed forces returned to Grozny. The Chechen leader did not meet them, saying that Chechen fighters should have no reason to be captured and that those who returned should again go to the front line.

On April 10, Shamsail Saraliev, a Russian State Duma member from Chechnya, announced the return of 106 soldiers from the Ukrainian captivity.

Ramzan Kadyrov reported on the return of prisoners of war with the mediation of Shamsail Saraliev on December 3 and 8, 2022. On April 15, the leader of Chechnya announced in his Telegram channel that five Chechen fighters had returned to Grozny from the Ukrainian captivity.

“The reasons may be different, but be that as it may, a fighter must prove that he had no other choice ... Let them prove that they did not avoid a battle, were not afraid to meet the enemy, and did not look for an opportunity to lay down their arms and escape from bullets,” the leader of Chechnya wrote.

As a “demonstrative example,” Ramzan Kadyrov referred to the situation of Kirgiz Musikhanov, who “was wounded, captured, but returned from captivity, healed his wounds, and again went into the thick of battles as a member of the ‘Akhmat” special forces unit, demonstrating good results.”

Let us remind you that on September 22, 2022, Ramzan Kadyrov expressed his dissatisfaction with the exchange of prisoners of war (POWs), which was organized by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the FSB. According to the leader of Chechnya, the exchange of prisoners of war took place on the Ukrainian terms, and no one consulted the leader of Chechnya and active participants of the special military operation. However, already on November 5, 2022, Ramzan Kadyrov expressed his satisfaction with the return of another group of prisoners of war to their homeland. That time, Russian State Duma member from Chechnya Shamsail Saraliev took part in the negotiations.

In November 2022, the analysts pointed out that the leader of Chechnya was expectedly using his participation in the exchange of prisoners of war for his own PR promotion.
