Mansur Movlaev leaves Kyrgyzstan due to threat of being sent to Chechnya

After being released from custody, Mansur Movlaev, a native of Chechnya, left Kyrgyzstan to avoid deportation to his homeland.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 20, in Bishkek, a court released Mansur Movlaev. His six-month sentence had expired, so Mansur Movlaev was released, but the court’s decision to expel him from the country remained in force, reports advocate Bakyt Avtandil.

On October 4, in Bishkek, a court sentenced Mansur Movlaev to six months of imprisonment in a penal colony and subsequent deportation from Kyrgyzstan for illegally crossing the border. Mansur Movlaev, who fears persecution by the Chechen authorities, asked the court to be sentenced to the maximum term of imprisonment.

Mansur Movlaev’s whereabouts is not disclosed for security reasons, the “Kavkaz.Realii* reports.

Mansur Movlaev has been put on the wanted list in Russia on the charge of financing extremist activities.

Earlier, sources reported that in 2020, Mansur Movlaev was sentenced in Russia to three years of imprisonment, in 2022, he was released on conditional early relief (CER), but was detained in Chechnya and held in an illegal prison. Mansur Movlaev escaped from there and managed to get to Kyrgyzstan.

Recently, activists from Russia have often been detained in Kyrgyzstan under various pretexts, while the country’s authorities very rarely grant refugee status, human rights defenders point out.
