Court recognizes check of activist Olga Begretova at airport as legal

In Pyatigorsk, the Garrison Military Court recognized as legal the actions of state border guards at an airport in Mineralnye Vody, who forced Olga Begretova, an activist from Nalchik, to have her fingerprints and biological material taken. The police refusal to investigate the incident was also found legal.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 13, Olga Begretova complained about forced fingerprinting at the airport. Investigators did not find any violations in the actions of the state border guards.

Olga Begretova noted that, according to the Russian law, fingerprints must be given by those who are unable for health reasons to provide the information about their identity, those suspected or accused of committing a crime, those arrested and those who committed an offense, whose identity cannot be established. Olga Begretova noted that she did not consent to fingerprinting, and therefore the procedure was carried out illegally.

The Pyatigorsk Garrison Military Court recognized the actions of the state border guards with respect to Olga Begretova as legal, the “Memorial” Centre for Defence of Human Rights reported.
