Relatives of riot participants at Makhachkala airport invited for questioning

Elders and religious leaders are involved in preventive conversations with relatives of participants in the riots at an airport in Makhachkala, the administration of the Levashinsky District reports. The court brought five local residents to justice for participating in the protest action at the Makhachkala airport, two others were sentenced to arrests, and three others were fined.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Dagestan, courts received 901 administrative cases on offenses during the anti-Semitic action and riots in Makhachkala.

Among the riot participants were natives of the Levashinsky District, the local administration reported on its Telegram channel. To prevent the similar situation from happening in the future, the administration “together with religious leaders and the most authoritative elders” held conversations with relatives of participants in the unsanctioned rally about the “inadmissibility of antisocial behaviour” and “administrative and criminal liabilities.” The district authorities report that similar preventive conversations will be carried out regularly.

By December 13, 2023, about 150 people had been arrested in connection with the unrest at the Makhachkala airport, and one of them was also accused of attacking a law enforcer.

For most of the accused, the arrest period has been extended until the end of March, while almost no investigating actions are being carried out. One of those arrested, Gerei Djamalutdinov, claims that he was not at the Makhachkala airport, and the police forced him to incriminate himself, but investigators have not verified his alibi, advocates report.
