Caucasian experts question version of Suleimanova’s murder

The long absence of information about the fate of Seda Suleimanova, who was taken to Chechnya, does not give reason to believe that she was killed, experts point out. They explain that “honour killings” are not committed for lack of religiosity, and relatives could just isolate the young woman from the world.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Seda Suleimanova could be killed by her relatives, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reports. “Nothing has been reported about Seda Suleimanova for more than 150 days,” human rights defenders emphasized.

The human rights defenders of the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* have not yet received a response to their complaint filed to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the Prosecutor’s Office, reports Alexandra Miroshnikova, the press secretary for the “SK SOS Crisis Group”*.

There are no compelling reasons to worry about Seda Suleimanova’s life yet, says an employee of the “Memorial” Centre for Defence of Human Rights. “If a person does not lead a public life, this does not mean that she was killed,” the human rights defender explained.

He believes that the problem of “honour killings” remains relevant.

In October 2022, Seda Suleimanova addressed the human rights defenders because she was afraid that her family in Grozny might commit an “honour killing” because they were not satisfied with her lack of religiosity.

The fact that “nothing has been reported about Seda Suleimanova for more than 150 days” does not mean that she was killed, agrees Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations.

Reports coming from sources of the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* give reason for concern, notes Svetlana Gannushkina*, the chair of the “Civic Assistance Committee”*.

Let us remind you that on August 29, 2023, in his report on a meeting with Seda Suleimanova, Chechen Ombudsperson Mansur Soltaev stated that she stayed in a safe place. The human rights defenders then noticed on the young woman’s neck a mark looking like a hematoma.
