Student detained in Rostov Region on treason case

In the Rostov Region, law enforcers have reported detention of a student from one of Moscow higher schools suspected of being an accomplice of Ukrainian special services.

According to law enforcers, the young man was collecting information for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and, on his own initiative, came into contact with structures "connected with the Ukrainian special services."

"In January-February 2024, he transferred information to Ukraine that could be used against the Russian Armed Forces to cause damage to a critical military facility," the "Interfax" quotes a message from the branch of the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) for the Rostov Region.

After detention, communication means were confiscated from the student, which, according to the FSB, he "could have used for contacts with a Ukrainian agent." A criminal case has been opened under the article of high treason, which provides for 12 to 20 years of freedom deprivation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the case of the 18-year-old Kevin Lik from Maykop, who was sentenced to four years in penal colony under the treason article. In Russia, such cases always end in convictions, lawyers have pointed out.
