Zalina Marshenkulova put on federal wanted list

Investigators have put Zalina Marshenkulova, a journalist from Kabardino-Balkaria, on the federal wanted list. The journalist is accused in absentia of justifying terrorism in public. The above has been reported by the “Kommersant” with reference to the base of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 10, investigators announced instituting a criminal case against Zalina Marshenkulova for her posts in the Telegram channel.

Zalina Marshenkulova, who lives in Germany, treats the accusations of justifying terrorism charged against her as absurd. The journalist associates the criminal prosecution with her political position. The criminal case is not related to the Zalina Marshenkulova’s participation in defending women’s rights in Kabardino-Balkaria, human rights defenders note.

Let us remind you sources report that Zalina Marshenkulova is being prosecuted for her statements about the death of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky in an explosion which occurred in a cafe in Saint Petersburg on April 2, 2023. However, according to the investigators’ version, Zalina Marshenkulova posted “publications on the justification of terrorism” in the Telegram channel a month before Vladlen Tatarsky’s death.

On April 11, in Moscow, a court upheld the order for an “urgent search” in the case against Zalina Marshenkulova. By that time, the police had already conducted a search in her former Moscow apartment, where the journalist had not lived for at least a year.

In 2020, Zalina Marshenkulova appealed to the police with complaints about threats she received on behalf of the “For the Good of the Common People” community. Investigators then refused to launch an investigation into the threats.
