Defence treats arrest of journalist Kevorkova as unlawful

The text by Orkhan Djemal, the publication of which became the reason for accusing Nadezhda Kevorkova, a journalist, of justifying terrorism, had not been declared illegal earlier. The argument that the publication on Kevorkova's Telegram channel was accessible does not correspond to reality, her advocate has emphasized.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kevorkova had refused to admit her guilt in justifying terrorism. The Basmanny Court of Moscow has arrested her for two months. Her relatives and colleagues came to the courthouse to support the journalist; several journalists and human rights defenders have declared their readiness to vouch for her.

Albina Pavlova, her advocate, has pointed out that Kevorkova has dependent elderly parents, that she had a fracture and is undergoing medical treatment. Besides, she has real estate in Moscow, where she is registered and actually lives. However, the judge has ignored these arguments.

Speaking about the publication of Orkhan Djemal's article in Nadezhda's Telegram channel, the advocate has noted that a linguistic and psychological expertise of Kevorkova's post was conducted. "Although Orkhan Djemal's post was not earlier declared as extremist, investigators conducted an examination of Nadezhda's post in her Telegram channel; and it was recognized as justifying terrorism. We'll challenge this, as well as the fact that Nadezhda's post was accessible to a broad audience. In order to treat some blog as a mass medium, it should have more than 3000 readers, while Kevorkova had less than 1000 readers at the time she posted Djemal's material," Albina Pavlova has explained.
