Escapade at Eternal Flame turns into public apologies for resident of Krasnodar Territory

Policemen have detained a man in Novorossiysk who had lit a cigarette from the Eternal Flame.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Southern Russia, law enforcers regularly initiate criminal cases under the article on desecration of military glory memorials; the article provides for up to three years of freedom deprivation. Thus, in May, a court received the case of a native of Maykop (Adygea), accused of damaging the Eternal Flame memorial in Krasnodar.

A video of the man lighting a cigarette from the Eternal Flame in Novorossiysk appeared in May on a Telegram channel dedicated to city news.

"As a subscriber reports, this is not the first time that the man walked and lit a cigarette from the Eternal Flame," the post has stated.

A few hours after the video appeared in social networks, the Territorial Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported in its official Telegram channel that the offender had been detained and posted a video with his public apologies.

"Of course, the man will not get off with just an apology," the MIA said in its statement.
