Pensioner fined for damaging a ballot in Sochi

In Sochi, a court imposed a fine on pensioner Elena Yanmurzina in a criminal case for attempting to spoil ballots at a polling station.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 15, at a polling station in Sochi, a local resident poured a dye into a ballot box and was detained on a criminal charge of obstructing the exercise of voting rights. The court placed the 62-year-old woman under house arrest until May 15.

The Central District Court of Sochi considered Elena Yanmurzina’s case in a special procedure, that is, without examining the evidence, since the defendant fully admitted her guilt, the “Mediazona” reported.

The minimum fine implied by the article on obstructing the activities of election commissions is 100,000 roubles, but the special procedure for considering a criminal case makes it possible to impose a punishment below the above-mentioned limit. The woman was fined 40,000 roubles by the court’s decision.
