Seda Suleimanova's friends demand to speed up the inquiry

Three months after the initiation of the case on Seda Suleimanova's murder, investigators have failed to make any conclusions; the process is deliberately being sabotaged, the petition created by Lena Patyaeva, a Seda's friend, has stated. She has demanded from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) to control over the inquiry into the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this April it became known that the ICRF was investigating Suleimanova's case under the murder article. An investigator in Chechnya had questioned the above Lena Patyaeva.

In August 2023, Seda Suleimanova, a native of Chechnya, was detained in Saint Petersburg and taken to Chechnya. After that, there were no messages from her. Her friends and human rights defenders fear she had fallen victim to an "honour killing".

Lena Patyaeva has launched a petition demanding to speed up the inquiry into Seda's case.

"There are grounds to believe that the investigative process is being deliberately sabotaged by officials who are proponents of the barbaric practice of 'honour killings'," Lena wrote in the petition posted on the "Change.org".

Apart from Lena Patyaeva, within these three months, investigators questioned Stanislav Kudriavtsev, Seda's bridegroom, the SK SOS Crisis Group* has informed. "It is unknown whether any Seda's relatives were questioned. Seda's mother was announced to be the suffered party, although she did not apply in connection with her daughter's disappearance," human rights defenders have reported.
