In June 2024, 28 people perished in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In June 2024, 28 victims were recorded in the armed conflict ongoing in Northern Caucasus. In Dagestan, five civilians and 17 law enforcers perished; six suspected militants were killed; the exact number of those wounded is still unknown, but there were not less than 43 of them. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

On June 23, attacks were committed in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala; six suspected militants were killed as part of the counterterrorist operation (CTO). Dagestani authorities initially reported that 15 law enforcers and several civilians perished in the CTO. On June 24, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) announced that four civilians had perished. The incidents are being investigated under the articles on terror acts, illegal arms trafficking, and theft of firearms.

Later, two more persons died in hospitals: a law enforcer and a civilian. On July 1, Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, clarified that 22 people had perished in the above terror acts: 17 police officers and five civilians.

In other regions of Northern Caucasus, which include Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia-Alania, Stavropol Territory and Chechnya, no armed incidents or conflict victims were recorded in June 2024.

The above statistics cannot present the number of victims with 100-percent accuracy. Not all the data get into news tapes. It is not always possible to verify the accuracy of the statements made by law enforcement bodies; and new data on the events of the reporting period sometimes become known after the publication of statistics by the "Caucasian Knot".

Earlier, in May 2024, one casualty was recorded. A suspected militant was killed in Karachay-Cherkessia.
