Zarema Musaeva stays in condition close to critical, her advocate reports

Zarema Musaeva’s blood sugar has approached a critically high level, drug therapy in a penal colony is not able to help the woman, and the court has postponed for a month the consideration of the appeal against the refusal in the conditional early relief for Zarema Musaeva. The above information has been reported by an advocate of Zarema Musaeva.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 27, the Shali District Court for the second time dismissed the defence’s motion for the conditional early relief (CER) of Zarema Musaeva. The court justified the refusal by the fact that the woman did not compensate for the damage in the case on fraud and was put on the preventive registration list at the penal colony.

On March 28, the advocate reported that the Zarema Musaeva’s vision had deteriorated sharply and severe pain had appeared. The deterioration of the Zarema Musaeva’s health state became another reason for her conditional early relief, but the woman essentially stays a hostage of the Chechen authorities, human rights defenders point out.

The condition of Zarema Musaeva, who suffers from diabetes, has worsened, advocate Alexander Savin emphasizes. According to the advocate’s report, the insulin dose is constantly being increased for Zarema Musaeva, but this does not help.

“She has now restricted her food intake to prevent further increases in her blood sugar levels and is awaiting hospitalization,” reported advocate Alexander Savin as quoted by the “Team Against Torture”*.

On July 4, 2023, the court sentenced Zarema Musaeva to 5.5 years of imprisonment for attacking a policeman. The court ignored the defence’s arguments that there was no evidence of the Zarema Musaeva’s guilt in the case.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
