Kadyrov calls on idle young people to join army

The leader of Chechnya suggested that young fellow countrymen leading an idle lifestyle serve in the Russian Army and thereby prove their commitment to traditional values.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 29, a building on the territory of the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes caught fire as a result of a drone attack. Ramzan Kadyrov announced that after the drone attack, he banned taking prisoners of war (POWs) during the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine.

In his Telegram channel, Ramzan Kadyrov recalled that a native of Chechnya should behave “in accordance with the norms of religion and national traditions.” In the above context, the leader of Chechnya considers service in the Russian troops to be the best choice for the “category of young people who lead an idle lifestyle.”

In April 2023, Ramzan Kadyrov reported that five Chechen fighters had returned to Grozny from Ukrainian captivity. The leader of Chechnya did not meet them, but criticized them. Human rights defenders and orientalists noted that captivity was not considered shameful in the Caucasus and that adats (local customary practices observed by a Muslim community, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) do not regulate behaviour in a hostility zone, since they apply only to everyday life.
