Dagestani activist Ramazan Rabadanov arrested for two months

A court in Makhachkala has arrested Ramazan Rabadanov, an activist, until January 7, 2025, within a case of illegal arms trafficking. This was reported by Shamil Khadulaev, the head of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan in his Telegram channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Dagestani residents were outraged by Rabadanov's detention, as he spoke out in defence of the defendants in the case of riots at the Makhachkala Airport. His son recorded an appeal to Putin with a request to look into what happened.

On November 7, Shamil Khadulaev, the head of the Dagestani POC, reported that Rabadanov had planned to go to the Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories to observe the trial of the "airport case."

Rabadanov asked the court not to place him into custody. "I want to help investigators in treating this case, therefore I ask not to isolate me from the society," the "Chernovik" outlet has quoted him as saying. Rabadanov has stated that he was detained on a trumped-up charge, and that a grenade, cartridges, a pistol, and a telephone were planted on him.

Recently, Rabadanov was known for his human rights initiatives. In particular, he was involved in organizing the legal and informational assistance to the defendants in the "airport case." Rabadanov helped in fundraising for advocates and also intended to attend and cover court proceedings, the "Chernovik" has added.
