Court ignores arguments of journalist Kevorkova's defence in terrorism justifying case
The defence insisted on softening the freedom restriction measure for Nadezhda Kevorkova, a journalist, since the inquiry is over, and she cannot influence it, but the court has ignored the advocates' arguments.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Basmanny Court of Moscow extended Kevorkova's arrest until December 6. Since May 7, 2024, she has been in custody on charges of justifying terrorism.
The judge has ignored the defence's arguments about the uselessness of her further custody, Albina Pavlova, one of the advocates, has explained. "The inquiry is over; Nadezhda cannot have any influence thereon; and there is no need to keep her in isolation," the advocate has stated.
Let us remind you that Kevorkova was accused of justifying terrorism for two post placed in her Telegram channel: a repost of a 2010 text by journalist Orkhan Djemal about the attack on Nalchik and a post about the Taliban movement*. Kevorkova completely reposted Djemal's text, adding only one phrase of her own: "Text of 2010 by Orkhan Djemal about the death of Anzor Astemirov." In the article, Djemal wrote about his acquaintance with Astemirov and the authorities' miscalculations that had led to discontent among Muslims.
*By the Russian Supreme Court the movement has been recognized to be a terrorist organization and banned in Russia.
