Seven rioters at Makhachkala Airport sentenced to long colony terms

The Aleksandrovsky Court of the Stavropol Territory has sentenced the participants in the riots that broke at the Makhachkala Airport in October 2023 to freedom deprivation for the terms from 8 to 9 years.

On October 24, the above court began considering the case against seven residents of Dagestan. Zhanmirza Aliev, Ali Amirkhanov, Alimurat Babatov, Zapir Batyrbekov, Ramazan Karnaev, Ismail Salmakhanov and Makhach Tuchuev are accused of taking part in mass riots, failure to comply with safety requirements at transport infrastructure facilities, and the use of violence against a state official.

The court has found that the above Aliev, Amirkhanov, Babatov, Batyrbekov, Karnaev, Salmakhanov and Tuchuev "on the basis of national and religious hatred towards citizens of Israel," refusing to comply with law enforcers' lawful demands, took part in mass riots accompanied by violence and property destruction, the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of the Russian Federation has reported.

The damage from the riots exceeded 24 million roubles; 23 people received bodily injuries of varying severity, the GPO has added.

Earlier, the Armavir City Court sentenced within the airport riot case Anvarbek Ataev, Islam Ibragimov, Magomed Omaraskhabov, Rabadan Radjabov and Salik Ramazanov to freedom deprivation terms ranging from six years and four months to nine years. The court handed down severe sentences without any proofs of defendants' guilt, their advocates have stated.
