Convicted relative of alleged militant achieves reconsideration of his case in Ingushetia
A Movsar Kottoev’s relative, sentenced to imprisonment for carrying a grenade, has succeeded in seeking the cancellation of the court’s decision.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that according to the law enforcement bodies’ version, Movsar Kottoev was involved in an attack on a road-and-patrol police service (known as DPS) checkpoint on the border of Ingushetia and North Ossetia in March 2023. Movsar Kottoev himself was found dead a week after the attack on the DPS checkpoint.
Magomed Kottoev was detained in April 2023. The court’s verdict states that the defendant kept a grenade in his house. The court sentenced Magomed Kottoev to six years of imprisonment. The defendant claimed that evidence was planted and that law enforcers abused their official powers.
The Magomed Kottoev’s defence insists that the testimony of one of the witnesses should be treated critically, since the witness works at the law enforcement bodies. In addition, the advocate pointed out that the material evidence was destroyed.
The Fifth Cassation Court in Pyatigorsk agreed with the arguments presented by the Magomed Kottoev’s defence and returned the verdict for reconsideration to the Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that a road-and-patrol police service (known as DPS) checkpoint on the border of Ingushetia and North Ossetia was attacked on March 28, 2023. Six residents of Ingushetia were put on the wanted list. On March 29, one of them, Ramazan Eldiev, was found dead in Karabulak. The suspect presumably died from wounds he got in the shootout. On April 5, the Movsar Kottoev’s body was found in an abandoned house. According to an investigators’ preliminary version, a grenade exploded in the Movsar Kottoev’s vest. On April 7, 22-year-old Amir Bokov was detained, and on the other day, the police detained the fourth attacker, 24-year-old Mikail Moshkhoev. Two suspects remained wanted, including 33-year-old Amirkhan Gurazhev and 35-year-old Adam Ozdoev.
