Russian MoJ declares Ruslan Kutaev* a foreign agent

The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has included Chechen human rights defender Ruslan Kutaev*, who lives abroad, in the register of foreign agents.

On June 6, the Russian Ministry of Justice added Chechen public figure Ruslan Kutaev* to the list of foreign agents.

According to the Russian MoJ’s version, Ruslan Kutaev* “was disseminating false information” about the decisions of the Russian authorities and the policies they pursued, and also spoke out against the Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

“He took part in creating messages and materials of foreign agents for an unlimited number of people. He is the head of an organization which activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the Russian MoJ’s website reports.

Ruslan Kutaev* has repeatedly commented for the “Caucasian Knot” on the events taking place in Chechnya. In June, in particular, the human rights defender commented on the kidnapping of blogger Areg Schepikhin in Moscow, which provoked a wide public outcry. “(Chechen law enforcers) have sufficient powers to act according to their own considerations and make detentions in Moscow and other parts of Russia,” Ruslan Kutaev* noted.
