The detention of Imam Muhammad Tamaskhanov, popular among Ingush youth, became a warning to representatives of spiritual movements whose position differs from the muftiate, the version about the connection with the militants is doubtful, analysts pointed out. Religious disputes are unlikely to have attracted the attention of the security forces, the opponent objected.

Two religious figures entered into a verbal altercation on social networks, which escalated into a conflict with mutual accusations. At a subsequent meeting on July 13 to discuss disagreements on religious issues, one of the participants in the conflict opened fire on his opponent, the second shot at him in response, Interfax reports, citing sources in law enforcement agencies.

Two people were wounded during the shootout. One of the victims was the security guard of the imam of the mosque of the Nasyr-Korst district of Nazran, Khamzat Chumakov. Both wounded belong to the same Ingush teip of the Yevloyevs.

Both 42-year-old victims, who received several gunshot wounds, were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, according to a report published on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 13 near the Magas market on the outskirts of the village of Ekazhevo, according to the details in the press release from the security forces. "The investigation was personally supervised by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia Mikhail Korobkin," the department noted.

Earlier it was reported that in September 2019, the jury acquitted the defendants of the attempted murder of Chumakov, but considered their guilt proven in terms of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. The court sentenced one of the defendants to seven years' imprisonment, and another to 4.5 years. The third defendant was released in the courtroom.
