New evacuation of residents announced in Tyrnyauz due to mudflow threat

The Tyrnyauz authorities have called on residents of a number of houses to evacuate due to the threat of another mudslide. Before this, the head of the KBR reported that 63 people remain in temporary accommodation centers.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in connection with the threat of another mudslide, the authorities called on residents of the Tyrnyauz microdistrict of Gerkhozhan to evacuate, for whom three temporary accommodation centers have been organized. As of the morning of August 1, 342 people had been evacuated. In the evening, the authorities announced the evacuation of residents of another part of Tyrnyauz. City residents were asked to clear their yards of cars and proceed to temporary accommodation centers.

This afternoon, the Tyrnyauz administration called on residents of houses located near the mudflow chute to go to temporary accommodation points, giving the addresses of three points. "Bring documents and necessary things with you," the message from 14.33 Moscow time says. There were no reports of a new mudflow by 17:56 Moscow time.

The authorities also reported the delivery of water and medicines to the city. Thus, a truck with bottled water was delivered to the mosque, and the Kabardino-Balkarian Ministry of Health sent the necessary medicines to the city.

At the same time, the head of the republic, Kazbek Kokov, today in the afternoon, before the announcement of a new evacuation, spoke about the work of temporary accommodation points. "Temporary accommodation points for evacuees are provided with water and everything necessary. There are 63 people there now. However, under favorable conditions, people will be able to return to their homes," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The author of the Telegram channel prohlad_no published a video from Tyrnyauz. "Mudflows washed away the park that was located below. Tourists and pedestrians can cross the central bridge on foot, but not by transport," he said.

The message about the need for evacuation was posted on the Instagram public page "Patriot KBR", which has 433 thousand subscribers, and it has garnered 52 comments.

In 2020, geophysicists surveyed the Buzulgan landslide for two weeks. During this time, the landslide moved down by 20 meters, its border was two kilometers from Tyrnyauz. To avoid catastrophic consequences, it is necessary to clear and reconstruct the mudflow channel, experts said at the time.
