The Ministry of Education and Science denies reducing the hours of studying the Chechen language in schools

The overall volume of teaching of the Chechen language in the republic's schools will not change, said the First Deputy Minister of Education of Chechnya. The state news agency changed the publication with the words of the minister, who had previously stated that the teaching of the Chechen language would be reduced from five hours a week to one.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, the Minister of Education of Chechnya announced at the end of August that the number of hours for studying the Chechen language in schools would be reduced by five times. The redistribution of hours, according to him, was introduced at the federal level. Starting this year, only one hour will be allocated for studying the Chechen language and literature instead of five, and this hour will be extracurricular.

The Chechen Ministry of Education and Science today denied information about the reduction of hours allocated for studying the Chechen language in schools. The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic Ilyas Taayev stated that “the volume of teaching of the Chechen language in schools will not be reduced.”

“There will be no reduction in the total volume of the Chechen language. Based on the fact that the unified schedule and unified curricula are currently being implemented quite strictly, we have transferred one hour of Chechen from the classroom to the extracurricular part. One hour has been transferred in volume. The volume of teaching of the Chechen language is not being reduced, it remains at the same level,” the Chechnya Segodnya news agency quotes him as saying.

A reader of the “Caucasian Knot” with the nickname greg today drew attention to the contradiction between this statement and the words of the head of the department, Khozh-Baudi Daayev, published by another state Chechen news agency on August 27.

“Just a few days ago there was a publication about how at a meeting of teachers in Grozny, the Minister of Education and Science of Chechnya Daayev stated the following: “… In previous years, as part of the instructions of the Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, we had five hours of Chechen language and literature per week. Now it is one hour” (...) Oh, this Aesopian language of Kadyrov’s officials! What does it mean: “we transferred one hour of Chechen from class activities to the extracurricular part. One hour was transferred in volume”? Previously, Chechen language and literature lessons were held five times a week. How many will there be now? Without all these “classroom”, extracurricular” and other studies?” - wrote the author of the commentary on the “Caucasian Knot”.

The publication with the words of Khozh-Baudi Daayev quoted by the reader on the Grozny Inform website as of 18:50 Moscow time today was changed without any notes about the changes. In the new version of the publication, Daayev says that “in previous years, as part of the instructions (...) of Ramzan Kadyrov, from the 2nd to the 8th grade there were five hours per week for studying the Chechen language and literature, and now one hour of this time will be transferred from the mandatory part to the extracurricular part.”
