Relatives of a detainee during mass disorders in Ingushetia appeal to HRC "Memorial"

The relatives of Batyr Moshkhoev, who was arrested on charges of taking part in mass disorders in Nazran on January 26, assert that the young man had nothing to do with the above events and is kept behind the bars without a slightest reason.

"On February 27, we received a written application from Musa Moshkhoev, a resident of the city of Nazran," an employee of the HRC "Memorial" in Nazran told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "He informed that on January 26 at 2:50 p.m., employees of local law enforcement bodies detained and delivered to the GOVD (city interior department) his son Batyr Musaevich Moshkhoev, born in 1988. According to Mr Moshkhoev, at about 2:30 p.m. Batyr went out of home and went to the hairdressing salon, near which he was detained by employees of the OMON (Special Militia) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Ingushetia."

Batyr was delivered to the GOVD of Nazran, as a supposed participant of the rally. The Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee under the RF Prosecutor's Office for the Republic Ingushetia initiated a criminal case on the fact of mass disorders on January 26 in Nazran.

"In the course of investigation, no proofs of his guilt were presented, however, the Investigatory Committee made a decision to keep him in custody. On January 28, the court upheld this decision and ruled to arrest Batyr Moshkhoev for the term of 10 days till presentation of the indictment. It was presented on February 5, and the term of custody was automatically extended by 3 months," the father of the detainee told to human rights activists.

The attempts of the advocate, who presented Moshkhoev's interests at the trial, to protest against the decision were fruitless.

"Batyr is an invalid from his childhood. During his detention at the temporary isolation facility doctors were called to him for several times, but neither the court nor the investigation took this circumstance into account and continues to keep him in custody," the detainee's father asserts.
