Gachechiladze: hunger strike will last till parliamentary elections in Georgia

The hunger strike held by the opposition will continue till the parliamentary elections in Georgia. Georgiy Gachechiladze, leader of the Party "Greens to Georgia" told about it to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The hunger strike will last till the parliamentary elections, we shall replace each other. The authorities of Georgia pay no attention to our protest action. But the population of Georgia has radical intentions and demands to take measures. In this case, a hunger strike is the most radical out of humane protest measures. I hope that the parliamentary elections will be not as ugly as the presidential one," Mr Gachechiladze has stated.

According to Georgiy Gachechiladze, the West, in particular the United States, keeps their eyes closed on the roughest violations during the presidential elections, since they fear that the situation in the region can get destabilized, which is not in their interests.

"Russia is playing for Saakashvili, the whole world has already understood it. They play in unison. On the eve of the presidential election of January 5, a tense background was set up both in Abkhazia and South Ossetia," Mr Gachechiladze asserts.

In case of Saakashvili's failure, he said, in the first round of election and appointment of the second round, military actions could have been launched in Abkhazia or South Ossetia.
