In Stavropol Territory, inmates' relatives complain of breaching their rights

Within the latest six months, the Islamic Committee of Russia has received two complaints from relatives of the prisoners kept at the Federal State Institution Corrective Colony (CC) No. 11 located in the Stavropol Territory, where the colony administration was accused of illegal actions.

Fatima Tarasova, a representative of the Islamic Committee of Russia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in November 2007 relatives of prisoner Isa Musaev addressed the Committee. According to their story, on Musaev's release day he was given a parcel with some things, which had been sent to him by his relatives some six weeks before. The car where Musaev was could hardly drive away from the colony gate, when it was stopped by FSB agents who took some narcotic substances out of the parcel. Musaev was arrested again and placed back to the colony.

"As of today, the case is closed, and Isa is at large. According to his relatives, a huge sum of money was extorted from them for stopping the case," Ms Tarasova said.

Later, relatives of another inmate of CC No. 11 of the Stavropol Territory - Vladimir Gogov - applied to the Islamic Committee. They said that the inmate, having served two thirds of his term in the colony, was going to petition for his early-conditional release (ECR). On January 19, a postal packet arrived to Gogov from his mother, later he was told that two packs with marihuana were detected in the postal packet.

According to Fatima Tarasova, presently, the case has calmed down. Gogov was rejected his right for the ECR and left in the colony to serve the rest of his term. "The whole story was invented just with the aim not to admit Gogov to his early-conditional release," Ms Tarasova asserts.
