Shamba: international mediators lull vigilance of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Making his comments on the outcomes of the extraordinary UN Security Council sitting held in New York on the situation in South Ossetia, Sergey Shamba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, has stated that international intermediaries, who had been assuring that Georgia would not apply force, lulled the vigilance both of Ossetians and Abkhazians.

"The fact that the UN Security Council has made no decisions - failed to condemn Georgia for triggering the war in South Ossetia or try to withdraw it somehow, means that it encourages Georgia's actions," said Sergey Shamba.

"Events in South Ossetia occur upon a tacit consent of the Council members and international intermediaries, maybe even not upon a tacit consent, but through their active participation, active arming Georgia and pushing it to aggression," has emphasized Mr Shamba in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In the opinion of the MFA head, "it's absolutely clear that there's no sense talking to them (intermediaries) or Georgians," and the non-recognized republics shall rely on themselves only.

"We've no further need of all these cynical and biased intermediaries in general. I wish them never come here again and fool us any longer. They kept convincing us that Georgia wouldn't use force, and there'd be no war. Thus, they lulled the vigilance of both Ossetians and Abkhazians," said the Abkhazian Foreign Minister.
