Embassy of Canada helps schools in Prigorodny District of North Ossetia

The embassy of Canada in Russia has allocated, with assistance of Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", 400,000 roubles to help two comprehensive schools located in the villages of Kurtat and Dongaron, Prigorodny District of North Ossetia. The money was spent to buy some school stock.

"Kurtat and Dongaron are villages of mixed residence of Ingushes and Ossetians, their children go to school together. Therefore, we've chosen to encourage such relations," said Yulia Chardina, head of the programme of the HRC "Memorial" named "Harmonization of Interethnic Relations in the Prigorodny District through SME Promotion".

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that all the most necessary stock was bought for the schools: balls, hoops, and trampolines for the gym, saws, hammers and grinders for hand labour lessons, a photo camera, a musical centre, a national accordion, a balalaika and a lot of other things.

The Prigorodny District is co-inhabited by Ossetians and Ingushes. After tragic events in autumn of 1992, the district is considered to be a former zone of the Ossetian-Ingush conflict.
