Public in Stavropol Territory concerns about nonobservance of women's rights
A meeting of the Expert Council under the Commissioner for Human Rights in Stavropol Territory was held in Stavropol on September 16. Women's rights in Stavropol Territory were the theme of the meeting.
The mass exclusion of women from social production has taken place in Stavropol Territory for the last years. Since 1990 the rate of women's participation in the production has reduced by 4 - from 51 to 47. There are hardly any working women in some territory's districts (Arzgirsky, Georgievsky). Women's unemployment has reached an unprecedented level.
The labor commission detects the largest number of breaches in the field of labor relations just in respect of women.
Speakers said that it was necessary to work out a state policy on the elimination of the discrimination against women, to develop measures for increasing a role of the woman in the territory's social life. A representative of Stavropol Territory's Cossacks, for instance, suggested to celebrate the Regional Women's Day on December 4 (as a continuation of the old tradition to celebrate the Cossack Woman's Day that day).
