In Dagestan, 14 persons got poisoned by bad potable water

On April 30, 14 residents of Novy Sulak village, Kizil-Yurt District of Dagestan, including five children, were hospitalized with a preliminary diagnosis "food poisoning by potable water".

"At 4:05 p.m. Moscow time on Thursday, the administration of Kizil-Yurt District reported poisoning of 9 residents, and by 6:20 p.m. Moscow time - of 14 residents, five children among them. All the victims were hospitalized with poisoning symptoms to the Kizil-Yurt District Hospital. Doctors find their health state as satisfactory," the press service of the Southern District Centre of Russia's Ministry for Emergencies has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that all the patients live in one street of Novy Sulak village, where potable water is delivered by an iron pipeline from an artesian well.

Now, the pipeline is shut off, and water is brought in tanks.

It is not the first case in Dagestan, when residents got poisoned by bad potable water. Thus, in May 2008 in Makhachkala, about 60 children living in Separatorny district were hospitalized with diagnosis "infectious hepatitis". According to Eleonora Omarieva, head of "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Consumer Supervision Service) division for the Republic of Dagestan, Separatorny summer cottage district has no supply of potable water; it has no sewage, but abounds in garbage dumps."

In their conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, residents of this district said that potable water is absent for a long time, garbage is practically never taken away; therefore, the place has no decent conditions for residence.
